A Korean skincare brand born in Finland
Founded in 2023, Hwarang combines Korean skincare traditions with modern formulations. Many may not know that Hwarang's roots also extend to Finland, where the brand idea was conceived. Manufacturing takes place in South Korea, leveraging the country's renowned skincare expertise and technology.
Hwarang is inspired by the ancient Korean royal hwarang warriors. These soldiers were called "flower warriors" because they performed ritual bathing ceremonies. These ceremonies used hanbang extracts, i.e., plant extracts, roots, and herbs from traditional Korean medicine. The purpose of the ceremonies was to make the skin glowing and healthy, reflecting inner strength, self-confidence, and courage.
Hwarang's name plays with the Korean language. It consists of two Korean words, the combination of which means Hwarang's product (화랑 is read as "Hwarang품, which is read as "poom", means an item, goods, or product). At the same time, the word "hwarangpoom" sounds similar to the Korean word for cosmetics (hwajangpoom).
